Advanced Practices at Hexham Abbey are either on Tuesdays or Wednesdays towards the end of each month. They are held on Wednesdays during school holidays when there is no choir practice, and this gives those with a Tuesday practice night an opportunity to come. They start at 7.30pm. The dates of the practices this year are shown above. I also send out notices by email a couple of weeks before each practice. If you would like to be added to this distribution list, or removed from it, please let me know.

Methods rung may include any of the standard 8 surprise major, singly and spliced, and Yorkshire, Cambridge, Lincolnshire, Superlative, Pudsey, London and Bristol Surprise Royal, and others by request. Methods rung vary considerably from one month to the next, and depend upon which ringers are attending the practice. A few practices throughout the year may be designated “major only”. Ringers regularly travel from Carlisle, Berwick, Durham, Sunderland and Gateshead to attend the practices. Some of us have shorter journeys. Visiting ringers from outside the area are very welcome.

The next practice is Wednesday, 28th May 2008. Special methods: Belfast S Major (again, as we were short in April), Lincolnshire S Royal (again, as we needed the practice!), plus others by request. I would also like to ring Bristol S Royal if we can get enough for this.

This enables me to have an idea of numbers and you to find out if the practice is on and what we are likely to be ringing.
